Panel Event: Anxious Moments: crime fiction and contemporary society
Sunday 17 September, 1:15pm- 2:15pm
Professor Sue Turnbull, interviewing Hayley Scrivenor and Jane Caro
The Women’s Club
Level 4, 179 Elizabeth St, Sydney
$30
Why is crime fiction so popular? Is it escapism? Or satisfying puzzle-solving? Does it offer the pleasure of exercising violence vicariously without getting our own hands dirty? Is it the satisfaction of an ending where the bad are punished even if good people die? Does it also reflect our concerns about the society in which we find ourselves and allow us as readers to work through our worries about what we cannot control.
Jane Caro and Hayley Scrivenor talk to Professor Sue Turnbull about their recent novels which deal with very contemporary issues.
