Saturday 30 September, 2023
Pleased as punched to announce that I’m heading to the 2023 National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle! I’m very excited to be appearing on a panel with James McKenzie Watson, whose book Denizen I absolutely loved (and he’s alright too, I guess…)
Panel details: “Partners in Crime”
‘Neither Hayley Scrivenor nor James McKenzie-Watson originally set out to write a crime novel when they began writing their first books, inspired by the regional towns where they grew up. Novels that centre around a crime have always spoken to the societies that they reflect and the power structures that sit underneath them. Australia loves the regional small town with a dark secret, and we’ve invited our titular Partners in Crime to speak not just about how they wrote and published their award-winning novels, but also the role of creative community in what often can be a solitary profession, and how their works sits within (and outside) the crime genre.’
When: Sat 30 Sep , 11.30am – 12.30pm AEST/ADST
Where: Newcastle Library (Main Room, Ground Floor), Laman Street, Newcastle
Cost: Free – as is the entire festival!
The National Young Writers’ Festival (NYWF) is an annual gathering of young writers – a place to show work, share ideas, and learn. Its programs are free, and made by and for young writers who create across stage, page, web and beyond. This year, it’s running from September 28 – October 1.
